Who can be on the team?

Students in 7th through 12th in the Papillion-La Vista School District are eligible to participate on the Papillion LaVista Trap Team. Whether you're new to the sport or an experienced shooter, we welcome all students with a passion for trapshooting to join our team! .

What is Trapshooting?

Trapshooting is a shotgun shooting sport where competitors take aim at fast-moving clay targets launched at unknown angles. Shooters fire a single shot at each target from five different stations, completing a round of 25 shots. These stations are positioned 16 yards from where the targets emerge, challenging athletes to demonstrate accuracy, focus, and skill.

Fall Season 2024

Our Fall Season features five practices, the River City Shoot Off, and a Fall Fun Shoot. We’ll kick things off with a registration meeting on Sunday, August 25th, 2024.  During this meeting, we will cover safety and scoring instructions, parent expectations, and provide a chance for questions and answers.

Prior experience is not required, making this season an excellent opportunity for students interested in trying shooting sports. Our coaches will teach the fundamentals of trap shooting and gun safety, emphasizing hands-on instruction while ensuring all participants adhere to proper gun and range safety rules at all times. Practices will take place rain or shine, starting on Sunday, September 8th, and running until Sunday, October 6th. In the event of inclement weather, we will meet in the clubhouse for classroom instruction. We encourage returning team members to join us for the Fall Season!

Spring Season 2025

The Spring Season kicks off in late January and runs through early May. Athletes will participate in two practices each week, with multiple competitions held on weekends. These events include an inter-team competition (City Shoot) where schools face off, six Eastern Cornhusker Trapshooting Conference (ECTC) shoots, one all-conference shoot, and the prestigious 55th Annual Cornhusker State Trapshoot in Doniphan, NE on May 1-3, 2025 where they compete against approximately 2,500 student athletes.

**Please note that only returning shooters are eligible to participate in the Spring Season. New shooters must complete the Fall Season before registering for Spring.

Hunters Safety Classes

A Hunter Safety Class is not required for the Fall Season. However, it is required in order to compete in the Spring Competition Season. Fall is the best time to take the free Hunter Safety Class as fewer classes are offered in the winter. The Hunter Safety Class schedule is listed on the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission website at (Click to Visit)
